Heidi from Fabric Mutt and I have teamed up to bring you The Long Weekend Event. We both love Amy Butler's Weekender Bag but haven't had the moxy to give it a try yet. I know there are others that also love the pattern but have been a little intimidated by all of the craziness! Well we have decided that it's time to jump in and do it!
And since the quilting/sewing community is so amazing we figured what better way to tackle something difficult than to tackle it together! The Long Weekend Event will be a place for us all to learn from each other.
We have a group started on Threadbias; you can find it here. We will be able to start threads to ask for support or offer advice!

Here are some of our fabulous sponsors!!

Now to kick off our event with a bang, why don't we have a giveaway!
Make sure you go and visit Heidi too! She's having a giveaway today as well!
This giveaway is sponsored by the wonderful shop, Cotton Blossom Farm!

For the giveaway they have donated a fantastic fat quarter bundle of Gypsy Girl by Lily Ashbury. Such a great line of fabric, isn't it?
You have two ways to enter, you can do one or both:
1. Leave a comment whether or not you think you might join along and what fabrics you are thinking about using.
and
2. Blog, Tweet, or share on facebook about the event, and leave the link.
This giveaway will be open until October 19th at 7am CST. The winner will be announced Friday, October 19th. That's it! I can't wait to see who will be joining us! You will probably see some of my progress over the next few weeks!
The giveaway is closed.

Would love to participate, and this bag is definitely in my to do list, but not sure I will make it in time as have a few projects that must get finished before I embark in a new one :(
ReplyDeletetwitted about the giveaway
ReplyDeleteI think I will be joining and making a patchwork version!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure I have the skills for this project, but I just might try it anyway! The support and tips would be so helpful! I love the Geocentric canvas fabric and it might have the heft needed for this bag. Thanks for the great series and for the giveaway chance, too!
ReplyDeleteTweeted the giveaway, too.

Here's my tweet: https://twitter.com/MtnQuiltworks/status/257820828618612736
ReplyDeleteI think I'll get out of my comfort zone and try this. Not going to do a patchwork though - will stick with a couple of different fabrics TBD. Fun, fun!
ReplyDeletei've been eyeing this bag but not sure I can commit right now :( I'll definitely be reading along. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI won't be joining on a bag stitch right now. I have forced myself to finish my hexagon quilts hand stitching before I start anything else. I did work on my Bejeweled Wedding ring while my new puppy was here potty training only to save my hexagon quilt from puppy accidents, but that was the limit of my straying from the hexagon quilt.. I must finish my hexie quilt... must!!
ReplyDeleteI won't be joining this time, but I would love to be entered in the giveaway. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see everyone's bags... and learn from their experiences! I made the little Sophia CarryAll bag, and would love to make the Weekender... but can't commit to it yet. Love this blog hop theme!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome giveaway chance!!
Crossing my fingers...

I will be following along, but not participating this time around. :( I love the look of this bag. But I'm nearly 36 weeks pregnant and have only enough sewing time and energy left to finish the projects I've already started this year. :) Thanks for the chance to win such lovelies!
ReplyDeleteThis looks tempting but also intimidating. What a great idea to do this! I love the pattern and it will be fun to see the fabrics people choose.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm in! I received the pattern last Friday and have read through it. I have a fabulous piece of home dec fabric I bought off a sale table about a year ago, though it might not be enough and it's weird shaped. I am looking to see what I could pair it with as I've seen others make the pockets, for instance, out of another fabric. I'd love to win the bundle you're giving away! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI tweeted: http://twitter.com/#!/illoh/status/257841506310844416. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI won't be playin along this time but would love a chance to win the yummy Gypsy Girl fabrics! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to join in; may get pattern at Malvern next week and would probs just go scrappy!
ReplyDeleteI love that bag, it would look great in some fall fabrics by Sandy Gervais.
ReplyDeleteMan I would have loved to create the weekender bag but I just spent my monthly quota on fabric and don't have enough for the pattern, bummer maybe next time.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to join and would like to do something with text fabrics and other coordinating black and white prints. Maybe I will get crazy and add a splash of turquoise.
ReplyDeleteWow I would love to make this bag but I already have too much one at the moment. I'll be watching the goings-on though and wishing I was part of it all!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to do it, but I'm not sure that I have the time right now. It's on my someday to do list though!
ReplyDeleteI want to join in...I'm not sure my to-do list will allow it, but we'll see!
ReplyDeletebrookeali(at)hotmail.com
I love the weekend bag and would be interested in the quilt-along but I have a quilt for my son that I am hand-quilting and I really want to get it done (it absolulutely cannot be a ufo!!).
ReplyDeleteI am a follower... thanks for a second chance, this fabric line is awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just can't get away from this bag! It's on my 4th quarter list, so I'd better join in the fun. I've got the cutest fabric picked out - a bright pink with white dandelions and a pink/white ticking stripe for the lining and piping. Thanks for the motivation!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll be joining, but am looking forward to seeing everyone's finished bags!
ReplyDeleteourbusylittlebunch(at)hotmail(dot)com
I would love to have participated, but I just don't have time at the moment!! But I'm loving seeing what fabrics and such everyone is using!
ReplyDeleteI love travel bags and have admired all the different ones in this pattern. I am thinking about joining along even though my to do list is pretty full.. but oh such fun! I am not sure what fabric I would use, so many choices!!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about it - all the broken needles scare me a bit! If I make one, it will be patchwork.
ReplyDeleteI spread the word on twitter.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about participating. I bought this pattern quite a while ago when my daughter sent me the link to it as a big HINT - I am not sure what I will use - actually I had been thinking of making it for her for Christmas. I will fabric shop. I love this bag pattern.

I definitely want to join in to this sew-along but I'm having trouble deciding which fabrics to use. Thanks for organizing the event & for the lovely giveaway as well!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to go with a quilt as you go version...
ReplyDeleteI am pondering but unsure if I will do it or not, as I have so many things I would like to get done before Christmas, but...Metro Living Circles if I squeeze it in.
ReplyDeleteI really like this bag a lot but I think I might pick another Amy Butler bag pattern (I have a book of them) and just play along. The pointers I get from this sew-along should help me with a different style bag and I won't blow my budget!
ReplyDeletethanks for the chance! I wouldn't be able to join, I just moved into a house with another family so I dont have much room for sewing but I'm working on it.

ReplyDeleteI really don't have time for this which is why I think I need to do it. I'm craving something creative and need a new bag desperately. I think I'm in. Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThis will go on my to do list. I love bags but as a fairly new sewer I will need to upgrade my skills first. I would rather like to make it in flea market fancy which is so lovely. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteks(dot)eyles(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk
I'd love to make this bag! perhaps in 'Bella'?? or 'Juggling Summer'??
ReplyDeleteI don't think I will be able to join in, but I will spread the word!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Christmas gift sewing mode right now but I'll be watching for hints and tips because I would like to make it some day just to see if I actually CAN conquer it, lol!
ReplyDeleteI would really love to join in, but I can't really afford to buy the pattern. i've got the book Style Stitches and I'm sure this bag, or one very similar is in there...
ReplyDeleteI won't be joining in now but I will follow along to see what everyone is up to. Please enter me in the giveaway drawing. hulseybg@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI won't be able to make a bag right now, but I will follow along and collect tips for when I have the time to try this pattern. The bags look really gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I'm not sure I have the skills to jump in but it would be fun to try! As for the fabrics, picking them would be a hard one! I do have some Joel Dewberry heirloom tile that I adore but haven't found the right project for :) thanks for having a giveaway!
ReplyDeleteCyndi_mf@hotmail.com
Probably not joining in as I'm attending a quilt show this weekend.
ReplyDeleteTweeted the giveaway @threecatsranch

I dont think i will be able to make a bag, but i will keep up with what everyone else is doing. Can i still win? babscorbitt@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI think I'll sit back and watch this time. I'll be interested to hear if you modified the pattern or what tips you might have to pass along before I try to make it - I'm a big chicken!! Thanks for the give away, those fabrics would make a great weekender bag!
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric ... wish I could join in, but just getting ready to move and packing up the sewing room till next month :)
ReplyDeleteI love this bag pattern and really wish I could participate. But I have too many projects going right now to start another. I've added this to my to-do wish list though
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern. I have looked at it a couple of time wanting to get it! Unfortunaly I have too much going now!!! Thanks for the chance to win!! My email address is jenjeb@juno.com
ReplyDeleteBlogged it! Getting way too excited about this!
ReplyDeletehttp://porchswingquilts.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-long-weekend-oh-yes-i-did.html
I think I will join! I have wanted to make this bag too and this is probably the way to do it - with encouragement from others!
ReplyDeleteI love this bag and have seen quite a few made up as we sell the pattern at Ballarat Patchwork. As much as it pains me to say so, I won't be able to join in. I have a broken wrist and sewing is a little difficult and all my committments are so far behind already. But I would love to win this fabric. Good luck with the sew along and as a fellow Threadbias gal I will follow along with the pics. Cheers, Karen
ReplyDeleteI dont know if I will sewalong, but I will sew soon after. I ordered Cocoon and need a bag badly and have loved this bag also...
ReplyDeletehttps://www.facebook.com/stener1
ReplyDeleteWow - I have the pattern and just got a layer cake of Cuzco by Moda...think I might have to make the bag out of those fabrics! I can't get enough of them :o)
ReplyDeleteI would love to sew along but I think this gorgeous bag is a wee bit above my skill level. I will definitely follow the postings, and look forward to learning along with everyone else! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteellen(at)myerly(dot)net
I'm the lucky 69th post. I love this bag but am intimitated by it too. I will be following along and who knows, you just may be the gentle push needed to start it.
ReplyDeleteDon't think I have the time to join the sew-a-long, as I sew for charity already with my Yahoo group, World of Charity Stitching.
ReplyDeleteThanks,

ah, to join or not to join? I shouldn't, but I want to...
ReplyDeleteI'm joining in! I've been hoarding my Weekender pattern for months now and have been TOO CHICKEN to try it. Thank you for sponsoring this! I'm really loving the patchwork ones, so I'm hoping someone will do a tutorial on those! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway and organizing all of this!: )
I pinned the blog hop! :) So excited for this!

I am thinking about doing this, I've read so much about it and the finished ones I've seen are truly gorgeous. I'm just not sure if I have the time to dedicate to such a huge project right now. If I did the bag, I would start with some Sweetwater Canvas that I have and add some solids with it.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like just the motivation I need to finally sew this bag. I have the perfect home dec fabric from Ikea. It's just the right weight, and the retro pattern suits the bag design to a T. Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI have already made one, but I'm excited to see what everyone makes!
ReplyDeleteI haven't made this yet and I'm not sure I will but I love seeing them made. Thanks for the chance to win some gorgeous fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I will join along this round since I don't have suitable fabric for the project. Anyway I will follow along and see what everyone makes!! It will be fun...
ReplyDeleteI love this bag.I won't be able to join the sew along, but will happily soak up all the tips and tricks on offer. My bundle of choice for this is 'cut and sew' by Cynthia Frenette - imagine taking a bag like that on a sewing weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteI am too far behind to start another project, but I know I'm going to enjoy this sew along vicariously. Thanks for letting all of us share in the fun.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about using Annette Tatum Classica Sateen. Hopefully this would be a good weight.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had more time so that I could join in and make one, too! This time around I'll just have to enjoy and be inspired by everyone else's creations.

I think this would be a fun bag to make. I am not sure what fabric I would use yet. I'll have to see if I can locate the pattern first and then look at the fabric I have.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to finally start this, it's been on my list for so long. I can't decide what fabric to use though, that might be the hardest part!
ReplyDeleteI shared on Facebook!

I wish I could join in! Unfortunately I'm away from home for a bit and I don't have access to my sewing machine :'(
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get started on this. I got my fabric today and the pattern is in the mail!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could join in, but my schedule is packed right now. But I can't wait to see what everyone creates!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI would really love to join in, I've been wanting to make one of these bags. I've got some Serenade by Kate Spain that I've been wanting to use, but wasn't sure how. This would be perfect! Hopefully my schedule allows time :)

ReplyDeleteoh my... so many projects going already...but I will definitely be watching and should move this up my to-do list...would make a great birthday gift for my mom.
ReplyDeleteJust bought my first sewing machine so I better wait. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI am trying to finish two bed sized quilts and a table runner by Christmas so I doubt I will be able to participate. Sounds like a good time for those who can.
ReplyDeletei can't wait, i LOVE this (scary) bag pattern, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to join this Long Weekend, but I'm over scheduled for the next few weeks. I'll certainly be coming back to your event for help when I get the chance to make this bag!

Ahhhh what gorgeous fabrics! I'd love to sew along, only my son is returning soon from being deployed in Afghanistan and lots to do, including moving my DIL and grandson back down to their base. But, I might still be up to the challenge, hehe.
ReplyDeleteThank you for a generous giveaway and a chance to win some gorgeous fabrics.
usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com
Love the bag, but I definitely won't have time to take on another project before X-Mas. The fabrics are great. thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI'm joining in!
ReplyDeleteUntil my back heals and I'm back to my cutting stance, this project will be on hold. Hopefully soon I can use this gorgeous group of Gypsy to make my own weekender too! Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI would love to participate, but I already have a list of projects to do.
ReplyDeleteI tweeted about this giveaway - https://twitter.com/addibrae/status/259019967171809280
ReplyDeleteI so want to make this bag that I've been eyeing since summer. I wish I wasn't already committed to finishing a gazillion projects by Thanksgiving or I'd be joining this group. But I am going to live vicariously through every one else to hopefully learn the do's and don'ts of constructing this bag.I would make it chevrons and Lotta Jansdotter fabric to give it an urban feel.
ReplyDeletei LOVE THE FABRICS...ABSOLUTELY love love love THE BAG, i CANNOT JOIN YOU IN MAKING IT NOW BUT IF I WIN I CAN DO IT AS A FOLLOWUP. BAGS ARE A PASSION FOR ME AND I REALLY LIKE THIS ONE .
ReplyDeleteI love this bag and would like to join, but I already have a chaotic weekend planned. :)
ReplyDeleteI picked up the pattern and I'm contemplating trying the quilted version using Mama Said Sew charm packs.
