A friend at church is expecting and so I thought that the baby needed a quilt! Her precious baby boy is due in about 4 weeks and the baby shower was this past weekend. A while back she found out that I made quilts and enjoyed sewing and she mentioned casually how she has always wanted quilts for her children. She had no idea that I would remember that comment and when she opened her gift tears filled her eyes.
This is the first quilt that I have given as a gift to someone who wasn't family. I had no idea it would be received in the way it was. I mean, to me, this quilt wasn't a big deal. I just sewed some charm squares together and did some straight line quilting. But to the mommy-to-be it meant the world. It was such a great feeling that something I created brought that much joy to someone.
I will be linking this post as part of Quilter in the Gap's Second Quarter Finish-A-Long . Click here for the original post.

Isn't that just the best? She will remember you, your quilt and your kindness forever! Darling quilt too! Lucky little baby :)

I love to give homemade gifts, just seems to mean so much more to the receipient. My girls were both given quilts and we used them till I thought they would fall apart, then I packed them up and stored them.. Maybe when the grandkids come along I will get them down and repair them.
ReplyDeleteaww, that's great! that's why we do what we do... :-) I bet you'll give more away now.... I love seeing their reactions or hearing about it- I don't always give the quilts in person. Once our church was going to a women's shelter and I had given them a "pile" of quilts to give away, one comment was that a girl got the quilt and she was so afraid to get it wet when they left to go outside, she tugged it under her shirt.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Lori! I think it's the greatest when we can use this gift to bless others. It's such a joy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a thoughtful gift. I love your modest review of it..."I mean, to me, this quilt wasn't a big deal. I just sewed some charm squares together and did some straight line quilting. ".... too funny. Love the quilt though!! =D
ReplyDeleteThat was so nice of you!!!! It is a beautiful quilt!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so wonderful! And the quilt is very nice!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt! How lovely to get such a nice reaction to your beautiful gift :)
ReplyDeleteI love the fabrics you chose for this little boys quilt! It looks wonderful! A co-worker of mine is expecting a baby boy and I've thought about making a quilt for her, but I don't know her that well so I don't know if she would think it's weird. :P I don't have any babies in my life to make quilts for, and they are so fast I think I might just do it. :)
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a lovely gift. A coworker told me last week that the quilt I made for her baby (now 16-year old) daughter still resides at the foot of her bed and is still used every day. I don't think you can go wrong with a handmade gift.
DeleteIt is nice to give a gift that is clearly well loved. The quilt is lovely and will be perfect for a new baby.
ReplyDeleteA lovely gift for sure. And how nice to know that your gift is appreciated. I always love to give (and receive) handmade gifts.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt..and the colors of your fabrics!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt! It's funny, but I have the same charm pack and was just wondering today what I should sew with it. It makes an awesome quilt!
